About

The 'Max Watson in UNISON' blog started as a by-election campaign blog in July 2010. In November 2010 I was elected to UNISON's National Executive Council (NEC) Higher Education general seat. I'd received nine branch nominations.

Once elected, I promised to report back here as often as I can to remain accountable to those I've been elected to represent.

In 2011, I stood again and was elected unopposed. See my letter to branches calling for nominations (2011); and my election address, 2011. In 2011 I received 19 branch nominations. For more, you can read some endorsements from those who supported me in 2011.

In 2013 I stood again and was re-elected (again unopposed). See my letter to branches, calling for nominations (2013), and my election address for 2013 is here. I received 15 branch nominations in 2013.

My vision for this blog, however, is to go beyond just me being accountable to the members who elected me to becoming a resource for Higher Ed UNISON activists to share with each other their latest news and a place to show support for and solidarity with each other.

I've also increasingly put info up about others who I support in HE elections, such as recently elected Tomasa Bullen, who stood alongside me on a left slate in the 2013 for the NEC.

Ideas on how to improve this site and make it a more useful resource for activists in HE always welcome.

Everything on this blog is written in a personal capacity unless otherwise stated.
